Frequently Asked Questions

Appointments & Booking

Do I need a doctor’s referral to book physiotherapy?

No. A doctor’s referral is not required to book physiotherapy in British Columbia. However, some extended health insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement, so it’s best to confirm with your insurance provider.

How do I book an appointment?

Appointments can be booked online through the booking link on this website. If you have any questions before booking, feel free to get in touch.

Billing & Insurance

Do you offer direct billing?

At this time, GroundSwell Physio does not offer direct billing to extended health insurance providers. Payment is due at the time of your appointment.

Can I still get reimbursed by my insurance?

Yes. Most extended health insurance plans reimburse physiotherapy services even if direct billing is not used. After your appointment, you will receive a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

Why do some patients prefer not using direct billing?

Many patients prefer to pay upfront and submit their own claims because it allows them to:

  • Earn credit card points or rewards
  • Maintain control over their insurance submissions
  • Avoid potential delays or partial claim approvals at the time of payment

If you are unsure about your coverage, it’s best to check directly with your insurance provider.

Location, Parking & Transit

Where is the clinic located?

GroundSwell Physio is located within Groundwork Athletics, a strength and conditioning facility in downtown Vancouver.

Is there parking or transit nearby?

Yes. The clinic is located on Granville Street and is easily accessible by transit and car.

There are several parkades nearby, with the closest located underneath Best Buy on Robson Street. The clinic is directly across the street from Granville Station and Vancouver City Centre Station, and there is a bus stop near the main entrance.

Accessibility

Is the clinic wheelchair accessible?

Yes. An elevator is available from the main lobby of the Vancouver Block building, which provides access to the basement level where the clinic is located.

If you have specific accessibility needs or questions ahead of your visit, please feel free to reach out.

Arrival & Check-In

How do I check in for my appointment?

GroundSwell Physio does not have a front-desk receptionist.

On the day of your appointment, you will receive a check-in link or QR code via your appointment reminder. Once you arrive, please complete the check-in using your phone.

Where should I wait when I arrive?

After checking in, please take a seat in the chairs located at the bottom of the stairs, to the right. I will come out to greet you at your scheduled appointment time.

If you have any difficulty finding the space or checking in, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Treatment Space & Facilities

Do you have a private treatment room?

Yes. GroundSwell Physio has access to a private treatment room for assessments and treatments that require increased privacy or a more traditional clinical setting.

Will my physiotherapy session take place in a private room or the gym space?

Your session may take place in the private treatment room, the gym space, or a combination of both, depending on:

  • Your injury or condition
  • The stage of your rehabilitation
  • Your comfort level and preferences

This setup allows treatment to progress from hands-on care to functional, movement-based rehabilitation when appropriate.

Will other people be training nearby during my appointment?

If treatment occurs within the gym space, other athletes may be training in the facility at the same time. Privacy and professionalism are always maintained, and treatment is adapted to your comfort level.

If you prefer treatment exclusively in a private room, please note this when booking or mention it at your first visit.

Do I need to be a member of Groundwork Athletics to attend physiotherapy?

No. You do not need to be a member of Groundwork Athletics to book or attend physiotherapy sessions at GroundSwell Physio.

Facilities & Amenities

Are there shower facilities available?

Yes. The facility has access to showers, towel service, and toiletries, which may be available for use following your session. Availability may vary depending on facility use at the time of your appointment.

Are there lockers and a place to change clothes?

Yes. Lockers and change rooms are available for storing personal belongings and changing before or after your appointment.

  • Lockers inside the change rooms require you to bring your own padlock
  • Smaller lockers are available outside of the change rooms for items such as a phone or wallet; keys are provided

If you prefer, you are also welcome to bring your belongings into the private treatment room and change there, depending on your comfort and needs.

As with any shared facility, patients are encouraged to bring only essential valuables.
